Pearl S. Buck's Typewriter chiffon top

Recently, I made a trip to the Pearl S. Buck house in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. It's a house I had passed many times when living near that area, but never stopped in. I was fortunate enough to be given a private tour of the house by their CFO, Jill Reeder. She told me wonderful stories from Ms. Buck's life and life in particular in that house.

In the library I spotted an antique Royal typewriter. Jill told me this was the typewriter where Ms. Buck wrote the manuscript of 'The Good Earth'. It was also in this room that Ms. Buck opened up the first free library and let her neighbors borrow books to read. She was a pioneer of many things. There was a beautiful Art Deco Steinway piano in the room too. And several important historical meetings happened in this same room. It felt really good to be in this place with all its positive energy. And although you might not think that wearing a typewriter is your style, think about the story behind whose typewriter it was and all those famous books and quotes she wrote that are still relevant today. She was happy living in this place with her second husband and children, most of them adopted. She was someone I would've loved to have coffee with and ask her about her life in China and how she came to be such a prolific writer.
